Suresh Pillai was critical of traditional historiography in South India. His familiarity with ancient Tamil literature enabled him to use that as a historical source. In particular, he had a deep understanding of Sangam literature. His approach to History was secular and unbiased. In addition to his book, Introduction to the Study of Temple Art (1976), which includes numerous photographs taken by him, he also sporadically published articles and presented papers in seminars. We have tried to collect as many of these published materials as possible for this book.
